Carman, Stoa Earn Bronze Medals At World Juniors
LEKSAND, Sweden - Avalanche prospects Mike Carman and Ryan Stoa won bronze medals at the World Junior Championship as members of the United States national junior team.
 
Team USA defeated Sweden 2-1 on Friday to claim the bronze medal at the 31st annual International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship. It was the fifth medal for the U.S. in the event.
 
Stoa posted a goal and one assist and was +2 in seven games during the tournament. He spent most of the time on a line with Peter Mueller and Nate Gerbe. 
 
Carman also appeared in all seven games for the Americans, scoring a goal with no assists and a +1 rating.
 
Carman and Stoa are both members of the top-ranked University of Minnesota hockey team.
 
Colorado's fourth selection (third round, 81st overall) in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Carman was making his first appearance with the U.S. National Junior Team. The 6-0, 175-pound freshman center has posted four goals and five assists in 19 games with the Golden Gophers this season. He leads the team with three short-handed goals. Prior to coming to Minnesota, Carman spent two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich.
 
Stoa, the Avalanche's first selection (second round, 34th overall) in the 2005 Entry Draft, also made his first appearance with the U.S. National Junior Team. A native of Bloomington, Minn., Stoa has 14 points (8g/6a) and is +14 in 19 games this season after notching 10 goals and 15 assists as a freshman in 2005-06. Prior to coming to Minnesota, he played two seasons in the U.S. National Team Development Program and helped the U.S. Under-18 Team to the gold medal at the at the 2005 IIHF World Under-18 Championship in the Czech Republic.
