Wolski Named NHL Rookie Of The Month

NEW YORK (January 2, 2007) -- Colorado Avalanche forward Wojtek Wolski, who tallied 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 13 games, has been named the NHL Rookie of the Month for December.

Wolski edged Los Angeles Kings center Anze Kopitar (5-7--12 in 14 games), Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin (6-8--14 in 14 games), San Jose Sharks center Joe Pavelski (5-5--10 in 14 games) and Anaheim Ducks right wing Dustin Penner (6-4--10 in 14 games) for the award.

Wolski tallied four multiple-point games in December, including two assists and a +3 rating in a 5-2 victory at San Jose Dec. 7 and two assists in a 5-2 home victory over the Carolina Hurricanes Dec. 11. He recorded the first two-goal game of his NHL career and notched his first game-winning goal in a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks Dec. 23 and posted three points (one goal, two assists) in a 5-4 loss to the Dallas Stars Dec. 27.
Wolski is the first Avalanche player to win rookie of the month honors since Radim Vrbata in February of 2002.
Wolski, 20, was selected in the first round (21st overall) of the 2004 Entry Draft. He ranks third among NHL rookie scorers with 29 points (14 goals, 15 assists) in 38 games.
