Avs Wrap Up Day Two Of Camp
The Colorado Avalanche completed Day Two of its 2006 training camp on Saturday morning at the South Suburban Family Sports Center in Englewood, Colo.

Highlighting the second day of on-ice action was the play of former University of Denver star Paul Stastny. Colorado's second selection (44th overall) in the 2005 Entry Draft, Stastny caught the eye of head coach Joel Quenneville with a number of plays during the full scrimmages.

"In the past two days, he's made four of the nicest plays we've seen," Quenneville said.

Quenneville also said that the 20-year old Stastny will be given every opportunity to make the team.

"You don't want to discount his chances, he'll get a chance to earn his spot. We'll see how he plays in the exhibition games but he's looked good."

Stastny says he just wants to give the coaches something to think about.

"I'm just trying to work hard and do my best," he said. "Hopefully I'll give the coaches a tough choice to make."

In other practice news, Quenneville said that defenseman Jordan Leopold may not be out as long as expected. Leopold underwent surgery to repair a hernia on Aug. 1 and originally was thought to be out until November. However, the head coach said he may only miss "three, four, five games."

Quenneville also said that there has been no update on Steve Konowalchuk.

"Nothing to report, nothing's changed since yesterday," he said.

The Avs will wrap up their three-day training camp on Sunday, hitting the ice from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Family Sports. All scrimmages and practice sessions are open to the public at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis.

The charity Burgundy/White Game will be held on Monday night (Sept. 18) at Magness Arena on the University of Denver campus, and the Avalanche will host the Dallas Stars for the exhibition opener on Tuesday (Sept. 19) at Pepsi Center
