Avs Open Training Camp
"It was exciting to get back on the ice," said Avalanche head coach Joel Quenneville. "I thought we had a good practice overall and everyone looked pretty good."
The Avs will hit the ice again on Saturday (Sept. 16) and Sunday (Sept. 17) from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. All scrimmages and practice sessions are open to the public at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis.
The charity Burgundy/White Game will be held on Sept. 18 at Magness Arena on the University of Denver campus, and the Avalanche will host the Dallas Stars for the exhibition opener on Sept. 19 at Pepsi Center.
Injured forwards Marek Svatos and Pierre Turgeon participated in limited drills on Friday.
"Svats took two practices, as did Turge," Quenneville said. "Probably we'll do that in the first three days and later in camp when we get to exhibition games, I'm looking at the last three or four games potentially play at least two or three of those games and get ready for the start."
Defenseman Ossi Vaananen was sick and did not practice. The Avalanche also announced on Friday that forward Steve Konowalchuk will miss the beginning of training camp to undergo further medical tests.
