DENVER - The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced Wednesday the appointment of former Avalanche defenseman Sylvain Lefebvre to its scouting staff. The focus of his work will be in scouting and overseeing the development of the organization's prospects.

"We're extremely happy to have Sylvain join our staff," said Avalanche Executive Vice President and General Manager Francois Giguere. "He's going to be a key component of our player developmental efforts and he'll be a strong resource for our younger players.

"Sylvain enjoyed a very successful NHL career, he knows our philosophy and we believe his background will be a great asset in his new role."

Lefebvre, 38, was a draft day acquisition by the Quebec Nordiques in 1994 from the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was a key member of the Avalanche blueline corps for four years and a member of the club's 1996 Stanley Cup Championship squad. Originally signed as a free agent in 1986 by the Montreal Canadiens, Lefebvre would go on to appear in 945 NHL contests over 14 NHL seasons with Montreal, Toronto, Quebec/Colorado and New York Rangers organizations.
