Legacy Project: Avalanche Contributes $1,000,000.00 To Denver Community
DENVER - The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club revealed prior to Wednesday's game versus the San Jose Sharks details regarding the Legacy Project, an unprecedented community endeavor entailing a one-night contribution of $1 million to ten selected agencies and programs.

The Legacy Project represents the combined efforts of the Colorado Avalanche, Kroenke Sports Enterprises and the McCormick Tribune Foundation and entails separate grants of $100,000 to ten different community charity groups. It's the single largest grant ever awarded in the history of the Colorado Avalanche Community Fund. The Project places the Avalanche Community Fund total donation over the $11 million mark in the club's tenth season.

"The prime objective of this Project is to create a lasting imprint in our community," said Stan Kroenke, owner of the Colorado Avalanche. "The initiatives funded by this Project will produce tangible, meaningful results, ones which we can take great pride in watching grow through the years."

"We've enjoyed support unmatched in our industry," said Avalanche President and General Manager Pierre Lacroix. "So in this, our tenth season, we wanted to find a way to give something back to the community that has given us so much. We were convinced that this gift needed to be substantial --- something that could match the overwhelming support this organization has received."

The groups selected as Legacy Project grant recipients were chosen based upon the opportunities and services they provide for underprivileged children and families. Criteria for selection included agencies that offer the basic necessities of life (food/shelter/health care/education) for the greatest number of children and families.

Each of the ten agencies represented on the ice received custom-made Avalanche jerseys, with a commemorative Legacy Project patch framed together with a photo of the charitable organization and a plaque which proclaims their designation as a Legacy Project grant recipient. During the pre-game presentation, Avalanche President & General Manager Pierre Lacroix presented each organization with a check for $100,000.

The following are the 10 agencies.
