Avalanche Finishes Preseason Saturday at Dallas
TENTH SEASON: The Avalanche is celebrating its 10th season of hockey in the Mile High City in 2005-06...Colorado opens the regular season with two road games (Oct. 5 at Edmonton and Oct. 8 at Dallas) before returning to Denver for the home opener on Oct. 10th (10/10) vs. Calgary...As part of the 10th anniversary celebration, the Avs will be offering fans a chance to win one of 10 prizes throughout the season, including exclusive team experiences, vacations and a new home courtesy of Amber Homes...Throughout the 2005-06 campaign, the Avs will unveil their Top Ten Moments of Avalanche Hockey...And to top it all off, the Avs community fund will go over the $10 million dollar mark in total funds raised over the past 10 years.
PK UNIT: The Avalanche has now killed off 18 consecutive opposing power play chances...Colorado held Los Angeles to 0-for-9 on the power play on Thursday after keeping Detroit without a PPG (0-for-5) on Tuesday...Colorado's PK unit ranks second in the NHL this preseason, allowing just two goals in 38 opportunities (94.7%), including one goal in 36 chances in regulation (97.2%).
BETWEEN THE PIPES: The Avalanche has posted a 1.94 team goals-against average this preseason, second best in the NHL behind Ottawa (1.83)...Colorado's goaltenders have combined to give up just 10 goals in five games while recording a .933 save pct.
