The Colorado Avalanche opened its 2005-06 training camp this week at the South Suburban Family Sports Center.

The Avs have a total of three practice sessions, Tuesday (Sept. 13), Wednesday (Sept. 14) and Thursday (Sept. 15). Practices are free and open to the public. Workouts are scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day at the South Suburban Family Sports Center (6901 South Peoria Street).

Following the three-day camp, the Avalanche will hold its annual Burgundy/White Game on Friday, Sept. 16, at Magness Arena on the Denver University campus beginning at 6:30 p.m. The first preseason game is Saturday, Sept. 17, when the Avs host the Dallas Stars at Pepsi Center (7:00 p.m.)

"This is always an exciting time of year for us, but like all hockey fans right now, we're even more eager to begin than we usually are," said Avalanche President and General Manager Pierre Lacroix. "The start of camp represents the beginning of a new era of Avalanche hockey and we're extremely eager to launch our tenth anniversary season here in Colorado."

"We believe this will be a very entertaining and upbeat training camp, and under the guidance of our coaching staff led by Joel Quenneville, we expect it to be very competitive."

"I'm excited about the group of guys we have in camp this season," said Avalanche Head Coach Joel Quenneville. "There's no doubt in my mind that we have the personnel we need to be among the top clubs in the NHL."
