Laperriere Honored For 1,000th Game
Prior to Sunday’s season finale against the St. Louis Blues, veteran forward Ian Laperriere was honored for playing in his 1,000th NHL game the previous night against Vancouver.

When Laperriere lined up for the opening faceoff yesterday against the Canucks, he became the second Avalanche player to reach the milestone this season. Defenseman Adam Foote previously hit the 1,000-game plateau on Oct. 12 at Edmonton.

Laperriere’s achievement was commemorated by a pre-game ceremony today that began with a video presentation containing highlights from his time with St. Louis, the New York Rangers, Los Angeles and Colorado.

He was also given a commemorative crystal, presented by Avalanche Assistant to the Executive Vice President/General Manager and Hockey Hall of Famer Michel Goulet, and a silver stick, handed off by former St. Louis teammate Kelly Chase.

Earlier in the day, Laperriere, who began his career in St. Louis, was presented with the official scoring sheet from his first NHL game, a March 3, 1994 contest vs. Vancouver.

Laperriere finished the season as the Avalanche's leader with 163 penalty minutes, just one minute ahead of Cody McLeod. In his 1,001 career games, he has posted 118 goals, 198 assists and 1,794 penalty minutes. Laperriere has tallied 112 points (40g/72a) in 307 games with the Avalanche.

Known throughout Colorado for his charitable contributions, Laperriere is the club’s nominee for the 2009 Bill Masterton Trophy, awarded to the player who “best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.”
