Watch Coach Quenneville's Press Conference

Less than 24 hours after leaving Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals against the Detroit Red Wings due to illness, Jose Theodore was back on the ice at Joe Louis Arena for Friday’s practice.

Theodore, who didn’t participate in Thursday’s morning skate, left Game 1 early in the second period and returned to the team hotel due to the illness.

During his press conference following today’s practice, Avalanche head coach Joel Quenneville seemed optimistic that his netminder would be available when the series resumes Saturday.

“Jose felt much better today, practiced and came out of it well,” said Quenneville. “He certainly feels much better today and we anticipate him feeling really good tomorrow.”

While Theodore should be back in the lineup, Peter Forsberg is listed as questionable for Saturday’s Game 2 in Detroit. Quenneville stated that it will come down to a game-time decision on whether or not the Swedish forward suits up against the Red Wings.

Meanwhile, Wojtek Wolski, who left last night’s game with an upper-body injury after being involved in a first-period collision, is out indefinitely and unlikely to return in the series.

While losing Wolski hurts, dealing with injuries isn’t anything new to this Avalanche squad. Colorado played large chunks of the regular season without the likes of Joe Sakic, Paul Stastny, Ryan Smyth and Kurt Sauer while also dealing with current injuries to Marek Svatos and Brett Clark.

“Every day throughout the season we’ve dealt with guys in and out of our lineup and different lines,” said Quenneville. “I think the depth of our team and our organization has really progressed. No matter who gets inserted in our lineup we think that they’re going to fill the void and welcome the challenge.”

While Forsberg would take Wolski’s spot in the lineup if healthy, Quenneville also mentioned the possibility of Jaroslav Hlinka, Wyatt Smith or Scott Parker seeing ice time if Forsberg is not available.
