
Lake Erie pulled out a 3-1 victory over Milwaukee last Tuesday (Feb. 26) with David Van Der Gulik leading the way with two goals. He now has 16 goals and 16 assists (32 points) on the season and leads the team with two shorthanded goals. Bill Thomas also scored for the Monsters. Thomas leads the squad with 19 goals – including eight on the power play– and has 36 total points.
Playing without Michael Sgarbossa – who was serving a one-game suspension – the Monsters were shutout in a 2-0 loss to Hamilton Saturday night. The loss ended Paul Carey’s eight-game point streak. Carey accumulated five goals and five assists (10 points) in the streak that began on Feb. 12.
The following day, the Monsters lost 4-2 to Rochester. Sgarbossa had his six-game point streak snapped in the game, which began on Jan. 18. He tallied 10 points (4g/6a) over that span. On the year, Sgarbossa is second on the squad with 38 points (17g/21a) in 41 games.
On Sunday, rookie goaltender Kieran Millan was recalled from the Denver Cutthroats to replace Calvin Pickard, who was called up to backup Semyon Varlamov in the Avalanche’s game that day against Columbus. Milan was returned to the Cutthroats after the Monsters’ game versus Rochester.
Kieran Millan made 20 saves while collecting the loss on Friday for Denver. He is 13-13-4-2 with the Cutthroats with a 2.70 goals-against average and has a .918 save percentage on the season.
Fellow rookie netminder, Kent Patterson, earned the Fish’s win on Saturday night as he stopped 35 shots. Patterson was reassigned to Denver from Lake Erie on Feb. 26. He has a 13-8-3-1 record, a 3.04 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage.
Joel Chouinard – who was reassigned to Denver from Lake Erie also on Feb. 26 – dished out two assists in the win on Saturday night. Chouinard has three goals and 10 assists (13 points) in 32 games played for the Cutthroats this season.
Troy Bourke (Prince George Cougars) had an assist Friday against Kamloops. Bourke leads his team with 31 assists and is second on the Cougars with 42 points.
Duncan Siemens (Saskatoon Blades) scored a goal Sunday against Moose Jaw, bringing his goal total on the year to three. He has 25 points (3g/22a) on the season and leads his team with a plus-35 rating.
Garrett Meurs (Plymouth Whalers) collected three goals and an assist last week in three games. He has 55 points (27g/28a) and leads Plymouth with 11 power play goals.
Mitchell Heard (Plymouth Whalers) continued his point streak, which is now at nine games and dates back to Feb. 16. He has totaled 14 points (6g/8a) in that span. He has 29 points (12g/17a) in total for the Whalers.
Joseph Blandisi (Ottawa 67’s) has tallied four points (1g/3a) in his last three games. He is now averaging a point per game – 20 points (6g/14a) in 20 games – with Ottawa.
Luke Moffatt (University of Michigan) scored a goal in Michigan’s Friday night 4-1 victory over Ferris State. Moffatt has six goals and 10 assists for the Wolverines.
Gus Young (Yale University) has accumulated 54 penalty minutes and six points (1g/5a) in 29 games.
